Black Pudding – The Latest Super Food Trend

Black Pudding has been an integral part of Spanish food tradition since generations. Recently, it gained huge popularity all over the world when a few scientists claimed it as a nutrient-rich, super food just like broccoli, kale, and spinach. Well, there is no escaping the fact that black puddings are made from pigs’ fat and blood. Although its dark black color makes it a little foreboding for many, this dish was particularly made with an intention to use up a plentiful by-product.  To make it, blood and fat from pigs’ meat are mixed with fat and oatmeal, before being packed into the casing. The sausage is then served boiled, fried, grilled and cut into rounds or crumbled into small pieces. The spices and seasonings may vary from region to region.

Although traditionally made from pigs’ fats, these days, you can find plenty of vegetarian black puddings packed with lots of oats or barley. Apart from black puddings, you can also find white puddings which do not contain any blood, hence have a pale hue.
